Biography

William Golding was a famous British poet, novelist, and playwright. He was born on 19 September 1911 in Newquay, Cornwall, UK. And died on 19 June 1993 at the age of 81 in Perranarworthal, Cornwall, UK. He is best known for his novel Lord of the Flies (1954). He started his early education in the UK at Marlborough Grammar School, and in 1934 he completed his B.A degree with second-class Honours.

Golding published his first book with the help of his Oxford friend, this book of Poems was published by Macmillan & Co. He was also awarded with numerous awards and recognition in his life, the most famous are Booker Prize for Rites of Passage. William was also ranked third on the list of “50 greatest British writers since 1945” in 2008. In 1983, he was awarded with a Literature Nobel Prize.

The name of his wife was Molly Evans. On 30 September 1939, after a divorce from Molly, he married Ann Brookfield (analytical chemist). He is the father of 2 children David and Judith. In June 1993, Willian Golding died of heart failure. He was buried in the Parish churchyard of Bowerchalke.
